By TOM ZEBOLD USF Senior Writer TAMPA – The Bulls put themselves into great positions, but they just couldn’t put it away Friday night. Jonelle Filigno connected on a penalty kick in the 108th minute that sent Rutgers past the USF women’s soccer team, 1-0, in Piscataway, N.J. The Bulls (4-4-1, 0-1-1) got off to a fast start by getting off eight shots (five on goal) in the first period before USF’s reliable defense took an opponent to two overtime periods for the second straight game. “The girls tried really hard and played well. We had a lot of chances and the best thing we can do from here on out is put some of those chances away,” head coach Denise Schilte-Brown said. Freshman keeper Christiane Endler made four saves and came up with a big stop in the 105th minute before Rutgers (6-3, 1-2) won it on a one-on-one opportunity. Schilte-Brown was proud of the team’s fight and knows USF will be ready to bounce back 1 p.m. Sunday at Seton Hall. “I want them to believe in themselves and know that they can get the results,” she said. “We have a good opportunity on Sunday to get a victory on the road and move forward.”
