TAMPA - Ecaterina Vasenina had a busy Tuesday on the tennis court.
USF's senior made it through the first two rounds of qualifier competition at the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Vasenina will play in the final qualifier round Wednesday for a spot in the main singles draw.
Vasenina started her day off by defeating Melissa Kopinski, Illinois' top player, 6-4, 6-4. She spent most of the afternoon battling Oklahoma's Whitney Ritchie before triumphing in three sets, 6-7, 7-6, 6-3.
"It's a really hard tournament and she fought," head coach Agustin Moreno said. "The first event of the season gave her some matches and now she knows how to win."
Vasenina's schedule will get even busier Thursday when she joins teammate Loreto Alonso Martinez in the main draw of doubles play.
