TAMPA - Ecaterina Vasenina is one tough Bull.
USF's top singles player won for the third time in two days to reach the main draw of the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Vasenina defeated UCLA's Pamela Montez, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4, on Wednesday after defeating opponents from Oklahoma and Illinois the day before in college tennis' most prestigious event of the fall season.
"She's had very tough matches and she was a little bit sore from yesterday. At the beginning it cost her a little bit, but she got into it and she's playing really, really well," head coach Agustin Moreno said.
Vasenina's toughness will be put to the test again on Thursday when she plays twice. In addition to her singles match, Vasenina will team up with Loreto Alonso Martinez to play in the main doubles draw against Wyoming's Simona Synkova and Veronica Popovici.
