TAMPA – The Bulls gave their fans plenty to cheer about in their regular season home finale Sunday afternoon.

The win, paired with a Marquette win Sunday, locked up the No. 2 seed in the Big East American Division for the Bulls ensuring a home game in the Big East Tournament on Oct. 28.

Demi Stokes and Ana Paola Lopez provided the offense, while the USF women’s soccer team posted its fourth straight shutout in a 2-0 win over St. John’s at Corbett Soccer Stadium. USF (10-4-2) has gone undefeated in its past six games and locked up second place in the Big East’s American Division on senior day.

“We’re scoring more goals as the relationships have developed on the field and the connections have gotten better,” head coach Denise Schilte-Brown said.

USF got both its goals in the second half with Stokes scoring for the third time this season in the 70th minute off assists by senior Taylor Patterson and Sarah Miller. Lopez put the game away 10 minutes later when she found the net with assists by Cara Patterson and Daniela Andrade.

Aside from the scores, Bulls’ offense provided plenty of excitement near the St. John’s net by outshooting the Red Storm, 19-8, and having a 6-3 edge in shots on goal.

“Overall they played a really solid game,” Schilte-Brown said. “We had a lot of opportunities in the first half and we could have easily gone up, but until the ball goes in the back of the net, you haven’t won the game.”

Schilte-Brown was able to breathe easy thanks to a USF defense that recorded its ninth shutout of the season. Freshman keeper Christiane Endler posted three saves and senior Summer Ikeda finished things off in strong fashion during the final 9 minutes of the game.

Other seniors honored on USF’s special day were Kayla Bala, Kelly Campbell, Ellycia Colon, Alexandra “Boo” Eagle, Catherine Leibbrandt and Marsha Harper.

“They’re an amazing group of girls,” Schilte-Brown said.

The Bulls finish up the regular season at Marquette on Saturday, Oct. 20 with first kick set for 8 p.m. in Milwaukee.

“I really want the girls to keep playing hard and stay focused,” Schilte-Brown said.
