TAMPA - Plenty of off time off has allowed the USF men's tennis team to improve in preparation for this week's ITA Regional Championships in Tallahassee.

Thursday's qualifying rounds mark USF's first competition since finishing a nice run at the Bedford Cup on Sept. 16 in Gainesville. Bulls competing for a chance to get to the main draw are Guillermo De Vilchez, Joao Souza and Everth Dzib. The main draw gets going on Friday.

"It will be a good opportunity to see what we get from the hard work we've been putting in in practice for weeks," assistant coach Brandon Wagner said. "They've been working hard, we've been pushing them really hard, and they're ready to battle against some other guys instead of themselves."

USF did plenty of battling at the Bedford Cup with De Vilchez, Ravi Patel and Federico Sabogal all making the quarterfinals. Sabogal went on to play in the semifinals.

"All three guys had great tournaments and we've had other guys stepping up and playing a lot better. I'm interested to see who puts it together in this tournament," Wagner said.
