TAMPA - The Bulls were back to their winning ways at the USF Varsity and PE Courts on Friday.
Ecaterina Vasenina and Loreto Alonso Martinez advanced to the singles main draw's round of 16 at the Florida State Championships. USF won four out of six singles matches and went 1-1 in doubles on the first day of the program's fall finale.
"It was good, especially with Katie and Loreto had a very good day. All together, we're playing well," head coach Agustin Moreno said.
Vasenina and Alonso Martinez teamed up for an 8-6 win over FSU's Leyla Erkin and Kristina Sehleich, along with winning their second-round singles matches. Vasenina started off with a 6-3, 7-5 win over FSU's Sehleich, while Alonso Martinez handled Miami's Brittany Dubins in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2.
"They played aggressive against tough schools. It was good to get keep them winning, especially in doubles," Moreno said.
Fanny Fracassi's singles run ended in the second round after she started off with a 6-0, 6-0 win over FAMU's Stephanie Miller. Kate Parker also cruised past a FAMU opponent in the first round when she defeated Shane Williams, 6-1, 6-0.
