TAMPA - First-year head coach Matt Hill wants USF to keep
climbing higher in the national rankings and the Bulls' spring schedule will
give them plenty of opportunities.
"We have a really good schedule. Almost every one of these
teams is ranked in the top 75 in the national rankings," Hill said.
The Bulls get things started in a pro setting at the Sunrise
Futures Tournament Jan. 11-16 along with another group playing at the FGCU
Spring Kickoff Jan. 11-13 in Fort Myers.
"That's going to be a good challenge for the guys and it
will give them motivation to stay in shape during the holiday break," Hill
USF gets a chance to host FAU (Jan. 19) and St. John's (Jan.
21) before taking part in the national indoor event at UCLA Jan. 25-26. The
Bulls will start off against BYU on the first day of competition.
"It's always a great tournament to be a part of. They invite
the best 60 teams in the country to come play in the tournament," Hill said.
Other key dates on the schedule are road tests at LSU (Feb.
3) and Texas and FSU at the Seminoles' home courts March 2-3 in Tallahassee.
Other in-state meetings include home matches against North Florida (Feb.
8), Miami (Feb. 10) and FAMU (Feb. 16) and a road test at UCF on April 14.
"To be the best we have to play the best, it's that simple,"
Hill said. "This schedule gives us a taste of that. As we progress in the
program, the schedule is going to get tougher and tougher."
