TAMPA - Andrell Smith and the USF women's basketball team are making a habit of getting Big East recognition.
Smith was named to the conference's weekly honor roll on Monday after averaging 17 points in two wins for the 8-0 Bulls last week. USF has had at least one player recognized by the Big East in each of the past three weeks.
Smith scored a game-high 19 points in USF's 67-46 victory over FGCU at the Sun Dome on Dec. 5. The senior guard followed that up with 15 points and six assists in a 92-52 victory at Jacksonville on Saturday. Smith ranks second on the team in scoring (14.8 ppg) behind her twin sister, Andrea, who is averaging 15.4 points this eason.
"I think it just goes back to her commitment in the offseason," head coach Jose Fernandez said. "I think she's doing a much better job of getting to the rim and finishing. She's really committed to taking good shots."
The Bulls are 8-0 for the first time since the 1976-77 heading into Sunday's 2 p.m. test against No. 25 Nebraska at the Sun Dome.
