USF Starts Spring in Mid-Season Form

TAMPA - Head coach Matt Hill got the start he was looking for from the Bulls in their first action of the spring.
The USF men's tennis team went 6-2 in singles and 3-1 in doubles Saturday at the FGCU Spring Invitational in Fort Myers.
"It's pretty clear that a few of the guys definitely trained during the holiday break, which this break is always tough to train with Christmas, family and all of that," Hill said. "A couple of the guys definitely got even better from when they left in December. That's a really great sign for us."
Federico Sabogal, Ravi Patel, Guillermo De Vilchez, Everth Dzib and Joao Souza all won their singles matches in straight sets. Oliver Pramming also won for USF in singles on the first day of action at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
Recent signee Ignacio Gonzalez Muniz won his first match as a Bull by teaming up with Pramming to defeat the Citadel's David Orces and Oliver Dedding, 8-2, in doubles play. Gonzalez Muniz was one of Spain's top junior players before heading to Tampa this spring.
"They have the ability to play some really high-level doubles. We're really pleased with what we saw in just a short period of time already," said Hill of the Gonzalez Muniz-Pramming duo.
The Bulls also got a pair of doubles wins over Tulane opponents from Juan Carlos Acuna Gerard and Souza, and Patel and De Vilchez in their respective flights.
