TAMPA - The USF men's tennis team took a big step in the right direction at the FGCU Spring Invitational this weekend.
The Bulls finished their first event of the spring season 6-2 in doubles and 10-5 in singles at the FGCU Tennis Complex in Fort Myers.
"The team chemistry just continues to build on a day-to-day basis as these guys spend time with each other on the road," first-year head coach Matt Hill said. "We only played three events in the fall, so we're still kind of new to each other in terms of competition. It was a great weekend."
Federico Sabogal, Oliver Pramming, Guillermo De Vilchez and Ravi Patel each went 2-0 in singles play. Pramming teamed up with new Bull Ignacio Gonzalez Muniz to go 2-0 in doubles and the combination of De Vilchez and Patel also posted two victories. Juan Carlos Acuna Gerard won twice in doubles with two different teammates.
"For two days in a row, it was great to see how much time they've put in over there break. That really shows up," Hill said.
The Bulls' next two events are at home with FAU visiting the USF Varsity Courts on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 11 a.m. USF faces its first Big East opponent of the spring Monday, Jan. 21 when it takes on St. John's at 1 p.m.
