TAMPA - The Bulls' tough road trip continues Friday when the
Bulls compete at the Jayhawk Classic that features more than 40 teams.
USF's competition includes host school Kansas' No. 2
women's program and a Jayhawk men's team that finished as the NCAA runner up
last outdoor season. Action begins 9 a.m. Friday at Anschutz Pavilion and head
coach Warren Bye is looking for the Bulls to continue making progress with
about three weeks to go before the Big East Indoor Championships.
"We're looking to see if the athletes can improve from last
week's competition. We had a very good weekend at Notre Dame and I look forward
to seeing how they do this weekend as well," Bye said.
Monique Williams (60), Atasha
Warren (shot put), Matthew Oneal (triple jump), Aireonna Bailey (200) and
Courtney Anderson (high jump) each won their respective events at last
weekend's Notre Dame Invitational. The Bulls increased their Big East
qualifying total to 27 on the women's side and 23 on the men's side.
USF started the spring facing some of the top programs
in the nation at the Crimson Tide Opener and the Bulls'
challenging schedule will continue at Penn State next weekend. The Big East
Indoor Championships are scheduled for Feb. 16-17 in Geneva, Ohio.
"Leading up to the Big East, the schedule is preparing us
for top competition. At the same time, it's giving the kids another opportunity
to go up against very, very good competitors," Bye said.
