TAMPA - Luke Maglich and James Ramsay drove in runs but the Bulls
didn't have enough offense to get past No. 9 FSU in Sunday's series finale.
Marcus Davis homered and DJ Stewart drove in three runs to
help the Seminoles compete a sweep with 5-2 victory at Mike Martin Field inside
Dick Howser Stadium. FSU (7-0) opened the series with a 14-3 win on Saturday
and defeated USF, 8-0, in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader.
USF starter Jimmy Herget (0-1) kept the Seminoles scoreless for
three innings and wound up taking the loss after giving up three runs (two
earned) in 4 1/3 innings. The freshman right-hander from Tampa struck out four
and walked two in the second-longest start by a Bull in the series.
Jimmy Falla went 2-for-3 while Anthony Diaz went 1-for-3 and
scored a run for USF (1-5). Maglich got the Bulls on the scoreboard in the
seventh inning when he hit into a fielder's choice that sent Ramsay home. Diaz
led the eighth inning off with a bunt single and advanced to second on a
throwing error. Ramsay drove Diaz in two batters later with a single to center
The Bulls stay on the road to face UCF on Tuesday at 6:30
p.m. in Orlando. USF's home schedule begins with a three-game series against Toledo
that starts Friday at 7 p.m.
