TAMPA - Chris Norton and Kyle Copack homered to help USF lock up a series win over FAMU on Saturday night at USF Baseball Stadium.
Norton's three-run homer in the fourth gave the Bulls an 8-1 lead and Copack's two-run homer in the seventh capped off the 11-2 victory that has USF approaching the .500 mark. The Bulls (9-10) started the series with an 11-3 win over the Rattlers on Friday night.
Norton's 2-for-2 performance raised his season batting average to .404 and the senior finished with four RBIs.
"He's gotten an opportunity and he's taken advantage of it," head coach Lelo Prado said. "That's the reason he plays every day. As long as he keeps hitting, he'll keep playing."
Starter Joey Lovecchio (2-1) gave up one earned run in the first inning and regrouped to pitch six scoreless frames while giving up four hits.
"I thought he got better as the game went on. Once he settled down he was the Joey that we know," Prado said.
Nik Alfonso went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Alex Mendez also had two hits as USF collected 12 hits for the second straight time against the Rattlers (1-19). FAMU starter Heath Blackburn (0-5) gave up four earned runs on six hits in only 2 1/3 innings.
Nolan Thomas (1-1) gets the start for the Bulls 1 p.m. Sunday when they go for the series sweep back at USF Baseball Stadium.
"If we don't come out ready to play tomorrow the first two days don't mean anything," Prado said.
