TAMPASara Nevins is in the running for one of college softball’s most prestigious honors for the second straight season.

USF’s junior left-hander is one of 25 finalists for the 2013 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award that will be announced at the opening of the Women’s College World Series on May 28 in Oklahoma City. The list will be narrowed down to 10 finalists May 8 and the top three will be revealed May 22.

Nevins was one of the final 11 considered for the award last season and hasn’t slowed down a bit in 2013. The Pinellas Park, Fla., native tossed her fourth-career no-hitter last Saturday at Pittsburgh and also became USF’s all-time leader in strikeouts earlier this season. She has 164 strikeouts so far this season and 693 in her career.

Nevins also leads USF with a 16-5 record and five saves in 32 appearances this season. She ranks eighth in the nation with a 1.04 earned run average heading into the Bulls’ test at No. 3/4 Florida 6 p.m. Wednesday in Gainesville.
