TAMPA – The No. 68 Bulls are on a roll heading into the Big East Men’s Tennis Championship that takes place Thursday through Sunday in South Bend, Ind.
Third-seeded USF finished the regular season on a three-match winning streak and now focuses its attention on Friday’s 3 p.m. quarterfinal match against sixth-seeded Villanova.
“There is nothing more exciting as a coach than going into the conference tournament and feeling like the guys are really playing at their potential. That’s what you hope for and work for all year,” head coach Matt Hill said.
Villanova also heads into the quarterfinal match with momentum after winning seven consecutive matches in an 11-day span to finish the regular season.
“They’re probably feeling really confident as well,” Hill said. “The depth in college tennis this year is different than other years. The parity is much higher, so we’re certainly not overlooking anybody.”
USF is looking to book a trip to the Big East title match for the second straight season after battling eventual winner Louisville in Tampa last spring.
“We’re one of the teams in the Big East that shows up to this tournament and expects to win,” Hill said.
