TAMPA –The No. 20 Bulls continued to dominate at home on Tuesday night

“We played good enough and we played solid defense,” said head coach Lelo Prado.  “We got the win.”

Chris Norton hit his fourth home run, a two-run bomb to left field, to give USF back the lead for good. The 7-3 win over Bethune-Cookman extends the Bulls' home winning streak to 12.

“He had a big hit,” Prado said.

Right-hander Mike Clarkson pitched six scoreless innings before allowing three runs in the seventh.  The sophomore allowed three runs on five hits and struck out five batters in 6 1/3 innings of work.

“He did a good job for us and we got the win,” Prado said.

Adrian Puig, Chad Taylor and Lawrence Pardo combined to pitch 2 2/3 innings in relief.  They allowed no runs on four hits and one strikeout.

James Ramsay hit a RBI-double down the left field line in the first inning and Nik Alfonso hit a RBI-single in the second to give the Bulls an early 2-0 lead.

Alfonso plated another run in the fourth on a RBI-single to extend the Bulls lead to 3-0.  The second baseman went 3-for-4 with two RBI’s and got his first stolen base of the season.

The Wildcats tied the game at 3 in the seventh scoring three runs on hits.  Eric Sams and PJ Biocic both collected RBI-singles.

The Bulls stretched their lead to 7-3 in the ninth, scoring two runs on two hits.

USF (32-16) travels to face Big East opponent Seton Hall in a three-game weekend series in South Orange, NJ.  Game 1 is set for 6 p.m. Friday.

“It should be a fun weekend, but our guys should be ready to go when we get there,” Prado said.
