TAMPA – The Bulls will chase after their first American Athletic Conference Championship title at a pretty sweet venue.
The American Athletic Conference has chosen FedExForum in Memphis, Tenn., as the location of the 2014 conference tournament that will take place March 12-15. The Memphis men’s basketball team and the Memphis Grizzlies play their home games at the venue that’s located off historic Beale Street and its popular entertainment district.
“We received significant interest from many outstanding venues,” Commissioner Mike Aresco said in a league release Tuesday. “FedExForum is an outstanding facility and the Forum, the city of Memphis, the University of Memphis and the local community will combine to create a wonderful inaugural event that our teams, coaches, administrators and fans will embrace and enjoy.”
The 10-team tournament will be televised on the ESPN networks with the championship game airing on ESPN on Saturday, March 15. Action begins with two first-round games on March 12. Two quarterfinal doubleheaders take place March 13 followed by a semifinal doubleheader on March 14. Game times will be released at a later date.
Along with USF, the teams competing in the American Athletic Conference’s first season will be national champion Louisville, Memphis, UCF, Cincinnati, UConn, Houston, Rutgers, SMU and Temple.
