TAMPA – Danielle Mills’ pro tennis resume now includes an impressive tournament victory.
The former USF star teamed up with former Florida State Seminole Francesca Segarelli to win the doubles bracket at the 10,000 Quintana Roo event in Mexico on June 4. The duo captured the title by upsetting top-seeded Ana Sofia Sanchez and Daniela Schippers, 6-2, 6-4, at the Grand Palladium Hotel and Resort.
Mills and Segarelli won a total of four matches in the 16-pair main draw and cruised past Monserrat Alonso and Melina Ferraro, 6-2, 6-1, in their opening match. The duo followed with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Sarahi Garcia Cerrera and Ana Luisa Perez Lopez and booked a trip to the title match with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over third-seeded Beatriz Maria Martins Cecato and Naomi Totka in the semifinals.
Mills went 12-8 in singles and 11-7 in doubles as a senior this spring while helping the Bulls reach the Big East tournament championship match for the third consecutive season.
