Lamar Makes CFL History in Regular Season Opener

By TOM ZEBOLD

USF Senior Writer

TAMPA – Former Bull Lindsey Lamar made CFL history with a 104-yard kickoff return for a score on his first touch Friday night and the 2010 Big East Special Teams Player of the Year kept the big plays coming for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in their season-opening 39-34 loss at Toronto.

Lamar joined Marcus Thigpen as the only players in CFL history to return a kickoff for a touchdown on their first-career touch after he waited for a key block at midfield and used his elite speed to jet past defenders down the sideline for the big score. Watch the play unfold HERE.

Lamar returned punts for touchdowns in each of Hamilton’s two preseason games and racked up 279 all-purpose yards Friday night at the Rogers Centre. Lamar rushed for 34 yards on four carries and returned six kickoffs for 227 yards before his fourth and final punt return set Hamilton up at its own 44 for the final drive of the game. Hamilton's comeback attempt fell short on the game's final play when Henry Burris couldn’t connect on a fade attempt to Andy Fantuz in the back of the end zone.
