Bulls Go 9-0 on Day 1 of Knights Invitational

TAMPA – The USF women’s tennis team started the Knights Invitational in perfect fashion Friday in Winter Park.

The Bulls took four consecutive doubles matches from FAU opponents before winning five in a row against FGCU in singles at the UCF-hosted event at Rollins College.

Freshmen Vera Bessonova and Olga Martinez got things rolling with an 8-0 doubles victory, while senior Alessandra Bonte and freshman Hailey Grillo also didn’t give up a point in their win over FAU opponents.

Martinez, Bonte, seniors Kayla Rizzolo and Loreto Alonso-Martinez and freshman Olaya Garrido-Rivas earned straight set wins over FGCU opponents before senior Fanny Fracassi completed the impressive sweep by toughing out a 7-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory over Elizabeth Means.

The Bulls’ tournament run continues 10 a.m. Saturday with doubles matches against FGCU. USF finishes up the day with singles matches against UCF.
