TAMPA — The USF women’s tennis team is back on the court this weekend for the annual Women’s Bedford Cup in Gainesville, Fla. The tournament begins Thursday and continues through Sunday. Action begins each day at 9 a.m.
Seniors Kayla Rizzolo (5) and Loreto Alonso-Martinez (7) both enter the tournament as top seeds, earning byes in the first round of play. The seeds are not surprising after the recent performance by both veterans who led the Bulls in a dominant showing at the Knights Invitational in Orlando. Rizzolo took the singles title and teamed up with Alonso-Martinez to capture the doubles crown.
As a doubles pair, Rizzolo and Alonso-Martinez received with a first-round bye in the Women’s Bedford Cup.
Junior Alessandra Bonte puts her undefeated fall record on the line when she faces Anicia Ifill of Bethune-Cookman University. Senior Fanny Fracassi will take on Majlena Pederson of FSU.
Several freshmen also take the court Thursday. Olaya Garrido-Riyas will face Florida’s Stefani Stojic, Olga Martinez will take on Sarah Means of FGCU and Vera Bassanova will take on Brittany Hill from Stetson.
Thursday – 9 a.m.: Doubles (1R), followed by Singles (1R) and Singles (Consolation 1R)
Friday – 9 a.m.: Doubles (2R), followed by Singles (2R, 3R)
Saturday – 9 a.m.: Doubles (QF, SF) followed by Singles (QF)
Sunday – 9 a.m.: Doubles (Final) followed by Singles (SF, Final)
