Bulls Back in the Pro Setting on Friday

TAMPA – The Bulls will get another taste of pro tennis at the Niceville Futures tournament that begins with singles qualifying Friday morning.
USF’s final team event of the fall comes a week after a trio of Bulls headed to the Pensacola Futures tournament. Head coach Matt Hill’s lineup for this weekend will include freshmen Sasha Gozun and Vadym Kalyuzhnny, junior Oliver Pramming and senior Federico Sabogal.
“We’re excited to continue playing pro tournaments and gain valuable experience for the rest of the season.
Players will go through four rounds of qualifying – one singles match per day – for a chance to enter the main draw. The Bulls will get to take part in the doubles portion of the event if they make it through singles qualifying.
“I’m looking for us to continue to improve in the areas we’ve been working on,” Hill said. “We’ve been talking a lot about mental toughness with them and have talked about tennis IQ.”
The Bulls, who will compete as amateurs, have been studying up more than usual because coaches aren’t allowed to interact with players while matches are taking place.
“They’re on their own and it’s great,” Hill said. “We can see if they’re taking in what we’re telling them and see where we’ve been bailing them out with coaching during matches. When they come off the court, we can talk about what we saw.”
The singles main draw begins Tuesday at Bluewater Bay Tennis Center. Check USF’s progress during the event by heading back to GoUSFBulls.com throughout the weekend.
