TAMPA – Freshman Sasha Gozun picked up some pro points in impressive fashion Wednesday at the IMG Academy $10K Futures tournament in Bradenton.
Gozun started his tournament run with four consecutive qualifying wins and built major momentum in the main draw by rallying past 32-year-old pro Ryan Haviland, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Haviland was a two-time Team USA member and an All-American on a Stanford team that captured a national championship .
“It was a really good win for him today. The guy that he was playing was extremely experienced and intelligent on the court,” head coach Matt Hill said. “But the moments that really mattered, Sasha handled really well today with a lot of composure. He took care of a lot of the big moments and that really was the difference today.”
Gozun became the third Bull to earn pro points in the past week after freshman Vadym Kalyuzhnyy and junior Oliver Pramming advanced in the main draw Bluewater Bay Pro Circuit Championships. Next up for Gozun is a matchup with Martins Podzus on Thursday.
