TAMPA, Fla. – Top 150 recruit Troy Holston signed a national letter of intent Wednesday to join the University of South Florida men’s basketball team for the 2014-15 season.
The 6-feet-4-inch 187-pound shooting guard from Tampa chose his hometown school over offers from approximately 40 others including Miami (FL), Memphis, Marquette, Kansas State and Alabama.
“We’re excited to land Troy Holston,” said USF head coach Stan Heath. “Troy is one of the best shooters in the country. He has the ability to create his own shot as well as knock down the open ones. He’s really blossomed as a player and has made himself into the player he is right now with the hard work that he’s put in. He’ll come in as a guy that we feel can contribute because of his outside shooting. Troy's excited to come here and we’re excited to have him.”
Holston, who gave a verbal commitment on Aug. 7, averaged 13.6 points while leading Oldsmar Christian to a 24-4 record last season. He was rated a three-star recruit by Scout, Rivals and ESPN. Holston was ranked the 26th best shooting guard prospect by Scout and an overall ranking of 140.
