TAMPA, JAN. 23, 2014 – The 59th ranked USF women’s tennis team travels to Coral Gables to participate in the 2014 ITA Kick-Off Weekend beginning at 1:00 p.m. Friday afternoon when they take on No. 65 LSU at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Miami.
The Bulls enter the weekend as the site’s number two seed while LSU is the third seed. Top-seeded Miami will square off with fourth seeded Ohio State at 10:00 a.m. to get the tournament underway.
The winners of Friday’s matches will play each other on Saturday with the winner qualifying for the ITA National Indoor tournament on Feb. 7-10.
USF is off to a nice start to the spring season currently boasting a 1-0 record and having a strong showing at the Michigan Invitational last weekend. The Bulls defeated Syracuse 4-3 on January 11 as Loreto Alonso-Martinez won a tiebreak 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4) to lift USF.
At the Michigan Invitational, Alonso-Martinez and Kayla Rizzolo defeated the 19th ranked duo of Caroline Rohde-Moe and Marija Milutinovic of Ole Miss. Olaya Garrido-Rivas also took down a ranked opponent in Ann Arbor besting 57th ranked Mai El Kamash of Ole Miss in a tiebreak 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7).
After another away match on January 31 when they travel to Florida State, the USF women’s tennis team will finally play another home match on February 5 when they host Florida Gulf Coast at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts. Fans can follow along with live stats here.
