TAMPA, FEB. 1, 2014 – The USF men's tennis team won all but one match against the Eagles of Florida Gulf Coast University on Saturday, winning the match 6-1 at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
The Bulls started the day by winning the first two doubles matches to take the doubles point. The 16th-ranked team of Oliver Pramming and Ignacio Gonzalez-Muniz won the first doubles match of the day, defeating Jordi Vives and Dean Tsamas 6-1. Roberto Cid and Sasha Gozun won the second match, defeating Tianyu Bao and Lance Lvovsky 6-3 to clinch doubles.
In singles action, the Bulls won five of six matches. All of USF's wins came in straight sets, with Finn Meinecke leading the way on court number four with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Lucas Vaz. Roberto Cid, Sasha Gozun, Ignacio Gonzalez-Muniz, and Everth Dzib also had victories for the Bulls.
Oliver Pramming lost a tough match on court one, with Jordi Vives taking the victory in a tiebreaker, 6-5, 4-6, (10-5)
"We had a lot of rain, so we hadn't hit in two days before this match, so I was a bit concerned," Head Coach Matt Hill said. "I was pleased overall with what I saw. We were a little rusty in the beginning, but the guys cleaned it up as the matches went on and got stronger, so that was good to see."
The Bulls take to the courts again tomorrow, facing the University of North Florida. The matches will commence at noon with doubles play. Singles matches will follow immediately after at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts. As always, admission to the match is free.
"Tomorrow is going to be a tough test. North Florida has a tough team, so the level is going up tomorrow," Hill said. "It will be the first match we will be playing with a full lineup so our level will be going up as well."
