2015: Byrd started all 13 games at the husky position…second on the team with 88 tackles (60 solo)…second on the team with 11 tackles for loss and tied for the team lead with five sacks...added four pass breakups, two quarterback hurries and two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery on the season…recorded three interceptions and returned them for 38 yards…had arguably the best game of his career against UConn (10/17), leading the team with 12 tackles, 3.5 TFL, 2 sacks, 2 QB hurries and a pass break up in the 28-20 win…posted double-digit tackles in a three-game stretch…forced two fumbles, had two sacks and 10 tackles in a 38-14 win over SMU (10/24)…posted 10 tackles and a tackle for loss at Navy (10/31)...had nine tackles in a win over Temple (11/14)...posted an interception and recovered a fumble in a 65-27 rout of Cincinnati (11/20)...had nine tackles and an interception at Maryland (9/19) and nine vs. Memphis (10/2)...posted eight tackles and a tackle for loss in the Miami Beach Bowl (12/21).
2014: Byrd had a tremendous first season for USF starting all 12 games at safety and earning Defensive MVP honors…led the team with 95 tackles (71 solo) and finishing 10th in the AAC and fifth among defensive backs posting 7.9 tackles per game…19th in the FBS and second in AAC with 5.9 solo tackles per game…tied for the team lead with two interceptions and added 2.0 tackles for loss, three pass break-ups and one forced fumble…led the team in tackles in a team-high six games, posting double-digit totals in three games…had five or more tackles in 11 games…posted a season-high 14 tackles (11 solo) at Wisconsin (9/27)…also notched 14 tackles (11 solo) and a tackle for loss vs. Houston (11/1)…led team with 11 tackles, an interception and a tackle for loss in his debut vs. Western Carolina (8/30)…led team with eight tackles vs. N.C. State (9/13)…forced a fumble and had six tackles vs. Maryland (9/6)…led team with six tackles in a win over UConn (9/19)…had a team-high eight tackles at Memphis (11/22)…had seven tackles and an interceptions vs. UCF (11/28) …lettered.
2013 • IOWA WESTERN CC: Selected an NJCAA second-team All-American and MFC first-team all-conference while playing at Iowa Western Community College in 2013…posted 53 tackles, two interceptions, seven pass-breakups and a fumble recovery in 2013 for an Iowa Western team that went 11-1 and finished No. 2 in the final NJCAA Poll…Western ranked in the top five in the NJCAA in points and yards allowed per game…played for one of the top junior college programs in the country…Iowa Western won the national title in 2012 and the Reivers had 14 players sign with Division I schools in 2013…also had offers from Arizona, Illinois and N.C. State among others.
2011-12 • TCU: Spent two seasons at TCU, redshirting in 2011 and playing in 12 games in 2012 as a redshirt freshman, posting one tackle for the Horned Frogs.
PASCO HIGH SCHOOL: Named the 2010 Sunshine Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year after leading Pasco HS with 73 tackles (12.9 tpg) and forcing three fumbles…intercepted two passes in a 2010 playoff win over Lakewood in his senior season…Pasco allowed only 13.3 points a game on the season and advanced to the Class 4A region semifinals…the Pirates finished the year with an 11-1 record…also saw time on offense, where he caught 13 passes for 192 yards and ran seven times for 111 yards and one touchdown…an All-North Suncoast defensive back…two-time All-Sunshine Athletic Conference honoree…the Pirates won four district titles and region and conference championships during his career…named the St. Petersburg Times’ Defensive Player of the Year as a linebacker in his junior season in which he led Pasco with 129 tackles (101 solo), six sacks, four fumble recoveries and a pass break-up…also scored four touchdowns as a running back that season for the Pirates…a two-year recipient of a Pasco Leadership Award...had offers from TCU, Boise State, Iowa State and Purdue.
