2015: First-team all-conference selection and received the team’s most improved player award at the annual banquet…started all 13 games at the cornerback position…fourth on the team with 62 tackles and tied for third with 8.5 tackles for loss...had a team-high four interceptions and added five pass break-ups, a team-best two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and a sack…ranked fifth in the AAC in interceptions (four) and 14th in passes defended (eight)…fourth in conference play in interceptions (three), 11th in passes defended (6)…recorded a sack, a season-high 2.5 tackles for loss, and forced a fumble in a 45-24 homecoming win vs. Syracuse (10/10)…set career high with nine tackles in a 38-14 victory over SMU (10/24)…forced a fumble at Navy (10/31)…logged eight tackles, two interceptions (returning one 29 yards for a touchdown) and a tackle for loss in a 65-27 thumping of Cincinnati (11/20).
2014: Nichols saw action in all 12 games as a true freshman and made his first career start at nickel back in a win at SMU (11/15)…logged eight tackles on the year…posted a season high two tackles in his first game vs. Western Carolina (8/30)…had a tackle in six games.
MIAMI CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL: Played for Roland Smith at Miami Central HS...previously coached by current USF running backs coach Telly Lockette at Central…posted 20 tackles and intercepted three passes and blocked a field goal in 2013 at Miami Central HS before missing much of the season with an injury…logged 105 tackles, 12 interceptions and two forced fumbles on his career…played for one of the most successful programs in Florida as Miami Central won its second straight state championship in 2013 and third in the past four years while advancing to four consecutive state finals…Central was ranked No. 3 in the nation by USA Today…rated as a three-star recruit by Rivals…ranked No. 14 on the Miami Herald’s Class of 2014 Top 25 Miami-Dade recruits List…rated No. 69 on the Florida High School Football Class of 2014 Top 150 list…posted 40 tackles, six interceptions, two touchdowns and a fumble recovery as a junior helping Central to the 6A state title…also ran track posting a 10.63 in the 100 meters and 22.07 in the 200…also had offers from Auburn, Cincinnati, Clemson, Georgia, Rutgers, UCLA, LSU, Miami, Pittsburgh and Tennessee according to 247Sports.com and Rivals.com.
