TAMPA, FEB. 22, 2014--The No. 56 USF men's tennis team won three out of six singles matches, but came up short falling 4-3 to No. 44 San Diego in a neutral site contest in Columbia, South Carolina at the Carolina Tennis Center.
Roberto Cid remained hot for the Bulls, winning both of his matches to go 4 and 0 for the weekend. In doubles, Cid and partner Sasha Gozun improved to 7-0 for the duel match season, beating the team of Romain Kalaydjian and Uros Petronijevic 8-3. Cid also remained undefeated for the dual match season in singles, picking up a ranked win over No. 78 Clarke Spinosa 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.
The Bulls were also able to take two more singles matches from San Diego. Ignacio Gonzalez-Muniz defeated Ciaran Fitzgerald in two sets, 6-4, 6-0. Federico Sabogal got a win over Aaron Addison in his first match of the season, 6-4, 6-0.
"We battled much harder today but came up a little short," Head Coach Matt Hill said. "We saw a lot of good things we can build on and saw a few things that need to be changed."
The team now has a week off before heading back on the road, travelling north to Tallahasee for a match against No. 38 Florida State next Saturday, March 1. Play will begin at noon at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
