Tallahassee, MARCH 1, 2014 – The No. 45 USF men’s tennis team nearly pulled off an upset of No. 36 Florida State falling 4-3 Saturday afternoon at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
The Bulls got on the board first picking up the doubles points after taking two-of-three matches. No. 35 Oliver Pramming and Ignacio Gonzalez-Muniz won the first match 8-5 over Marco Nunez and Grayson Goldin. FSU took the third doubles spot before No. 29 Roberto Cid and Sasha Gozun bested No. 23 Dominic Cotrone and Blake Davis in a tiebreak, 8-7 (6) at first doubles.
Cid extended the lead for USF winning at first singles easily over Cotrone 6-2, 6-2. Gonzalez-Muniz also earned a nice victory for the Bulls besting his opponents Michael Rinaldi 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3) at the fifth singles spot.
Oliver Pramming won the first set at second singles but eventually fell to Davis 1-6, 6-0, 6-1.
USF finally returns to their home courts on Tuesday, March 4 when it welcomes Tulane to the USF Varsity Tennis Courts. The match is set to get underway at 2:00 p.m. beginning with doubles action followed shortly by singles play.
