TAMPA, MARCH 4, 2014 – The USF men’s tennis team finally returned home to the USF Tennis Courts after a five-match road swing Tuesday afternoon and took care of Tulane handily, defeating the Green Wave 5-2.
USF had an uphill battle to climb as they dropped the doubles point but rebounded to win five of six singles matches. The green and gold also lost the first singles match to fall behind 2-0 before Vadym Kalyuzhnyy picked up the first win for the Bulls at fourth singles winning 6-4, 6-2. No. 81 Roberto Cid knotted the match at two apiece claiming an 8-5, 6-3 victory at first singles.
Ignacio Gonzalez-Muniz and Federico Sabogal picked up the next two wins for USF to clinch the match winning 7-5, 6-4 and 7-6, 6-1, respectively. Oliver Pramming had the final win of the afternoon coming back after dropping the first set 4-6 to claim the second set 7-5 and winning the tiebreak 10-8.
With the win, USF was able to put a halt to a three-game losing streak, all to ranked opponents. Two of those losses were decided by a single match losing 4-3 to Florida State and San Diego.
The Bulls will continue their four match home stand on Friday, March 7 welcoming South Alabama to the USF Tennis Courts. The match is scheduled to get underway at 2:00 p.m. beginning with doubles action followed by singles.
