No. 47 USF dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 6 Illinois Friday afternoon at the Atkins Tennis Center.

“We are disappointed not to come out on top today, but we have a very tough match tomorrow,” said head coach Matt Hill.  “Our focus is on Pepperdine.  I am excited to see how the team responds tomorrow after the loss today.”

Illinois got on the board first at third singles with Blake Bazarnik taking down Vadym Kalyuzhnyy, 6-1, 6-2.  At second singles, Oliver Pramming pushed the first set to 7-5 before falling 6-2 in the second.  No. 65 Roberto Cid fell to No. 17 Farris Gosea at the top spot to give the Fighting Illini a 3-0 advantage.

Federico Sabogal put a W in the win column for USF besting Julian Chandlers 6-2, 6-3 at sixth singles.  Sasha Gozun fell in three sets at fourth singles 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 to give Illinois the match.  At the fifth spot, Ignacio Gonzalez-Muniz nearly gave the Bulls another point as he was leading 3-6, 6-3, 5-2 before the match was called off.
