TAMPA, April 1, 2014 – Hard work continues to pay off for the USF men’s tennis team.
The Bulls have jumped from No. 31 to No. 25 in this week’s ITA rankings after completing the home portion of their schedule with a perfect record.
“It’s a testament to how hard these guys have been training, but we feel like we have a lot more room to grow,” head coach Matt Hill said. “Six of our nine players started playing for us this year and we feel we’re just scratching the surface.”
USF (13-4) extended its winning streak to four and improved to 10-0 at the USF Varsity Courts with a 7-0 victory over in-state rival UCF in the American Athletic Conference opener on March 28. The Bulls made a big jump in the rankings while going 8-2 in March and they’ve come a long way since starting the season ranked No. 70 in the nation.
“One of our goals was to be consistent, which with a young team is not easy to do,” Hill said. “They’ve done that for the most part throughout the year when we’ve been competing and that’s a testament to how consistent they are in training.”
USF starts a four-match road trip 7 p.m. Wednesday at Baylor and will tune up for the American Athletic Conference Championships with tests at Tulsa (April 4), MTSU (April 11) and Memphis (April 13). The conference championships take place April 17-20 in Memphis, Tenn.
