TAMPA, JULY 15, 2014 – USF women’s tennis has earned ITA All-Academic Team status while freshmen Hailey Grillo and Olga Martinez, and seniors Loreto Alonso-Martinez, Fanny Fracassi and Kayla Rizzolo have been named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
The Bulls finished the spring semester with a 3.66 grade point average after wrapping up a highly successful season on the courts. Head coach Agustin Moreno’s squad went 18-4 and won the American Athletic Conference title on the way to making the program’s 11th NCAA tournament appearance.
To qualify for the ITA All-Academic Team award, an ITA member program had to post a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 or above. All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2013 and spring 2014).
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a student-athlete had to earn a varsity letter, posted a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
"The ITA wishes to congratulate all schools named to the ITA All-Academic Team and the ITA Scholar-Athletes for achieving great success both on and off the court," said ITA Executive Director David Benjamin in an ITA release.
