TAMPA, JAN. 7, 2017 – The University of South Florida men’s basketball team plays its first home game of 2017 on Wednesday evening when the Bulls welcome Tulane to the Sun Dome for a 7 p.m. showdown.

USF enters the midweek tilt following a road loss at SMU on Saturday. Despite the defeat, there were many bright spots for the young Bulls, who boast no seniors. USF established new season-highs with 11 made three pointers and 16 assists. Sophomore guard Troy Holston (Queens, N.Y.) tallied a season-best 20 points as the Bulls turned the ball over just 11 times, a season-low.

The Opponent

Tulane has had a difficult season thus far, winning just three of its 15 games played. The Green Wave arrive in Tampa with hopes of snapping a five-game losing streak. Redshirt junior guard Cameron Reynolds is registering a team-high 15.5 points per game. Sophomore guards Kain Harris (11.1) and Melvin Frazier (10.6) are also averaging double-digit point totals this year.

The Green Wave hold the 18-13 edge in the all-time series with the Bulls. Both teams split the two meetings last season. USF owns the slight 8-7 advantage in games played in Tampa.

  • USF is currently third in The American in three point shooting percentage (.363).
  • Junior guard Geno Thorpe (Pittsburgh) is second in the conference in free throw percentage (.852) and seventh in assists (4.0).

  • The Bulls have outrebounded their opponent in five of the last seven contests.
  • USF has outscored the opponent by 99 points in the paint this year.
  • This season, the Bulls are one of four NCAA Division I teams with no seniors on its roster. The other three are Bradley, Penn State and UT-Rio Grande Valley.
