Stokes Seeing Success in Professional Career
TAMPA (April 19, 2017) — Former USF women’s soccer player Demi Stokes has been seeing success in her professional career, being named to England’s squad for the UEFA Women’s Euro 2017 finals, and playing for the FA Cup Title with her club team.
The 2015 graduate missed out on selection for England’s World Cup squad in 2015, but has been able to breathe a sigh of relief after being named to this year’s squad. This will be Stokes’ first major tournament when she appears in the Euro finals.
“I was nervous and I was up early on Friday checking my e-mails. I was very, very relieved to see that I’d been selected,” Stokes told theFA.com “I never take my place for granted for club or country. You’ve just got to hope you’ve done enough. I played quite a lot before the World Cup and I didn’t make the squad that went to Canada, so there was no way I was going to take my place for granted this time.”
With Manchester City, Stokes will play at Wembley Stadium on May 13 for the FA Cup title against Birmingham City. Man City beat Liverpool in the semifinals to advance. Joining Stokes on the team is USA National Team member, Carli Lloyd.
This weekend, Stokes and Man City will play in the Champions League semifinals against Lyon in a home-and-home series.
