Gozun Wins Second Straight Pro Doubles Title
BUFFALO, N.Y. (June 16, 2017) – Recent graduate Sasha Gozun won his second straight professional doubles title in the F18 ITF Futures Doubles Finals with partner Tomas Stillman (United States) in Buffalo, N.Y. Friday afternoon. Also working the pro circuit, rising junior Alberto Barroso-Campos advanced to the F17 ITF Futures Quarterfinals in Martos, Spain.
Gozun worked his way to the final round in doubles with partner Stillman after defeating Gonzalo Lama (Chile) and Simon Navarro (Chile) 6-1, 6-3, in the round of 16. In the quarterfinals the pair earned a win after Makism Tikhomirov (United States) and Max Wennako Ski (Finland) withdrew.
Gozun and Stillman faced Christian Lakoseljac and David Volfson of Canada for the final round of doubles Friday afternoon. Gozun and Stillman took down the Canadian competition in straight sets for Gozun's second straight professional doubles title, 6-4, 6-3. His first came on the day he graduated from USF with partner Barroso-Campos.
Barroso-Campos has had an impressive showing in Spain including one of the most notable wins in his career over No. 584 Erik Crepaldi (Italy). Barroso-Campos went on to defeat Frederik Nielsen (Denmark), 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, in the second round to claim his spot in the quarterfinals.
Barroso-Campos saw Andres Artunedo Martinavarr (Spain) Friday during quarterfinals, but fell 6-3, 6-2.
