LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of South Florida softball team (25-12 overall, 4-1BIG EAST) suffered their first BIG EAST Conference loss to the No. 15/16 University of Louisville Cardinals (23-3 overall, 1-0 BIG EAST), 5-0, in the first game on Friday afternoon.
The Bulls’ two hits could not match the Cards eight hits in the game.
Louisville put together three singles in the first inning to put the first run on the board.
USF junior Cat Olnick looked to rally the Bulls back in the top of the second with a leadoff single. Pinch runner Merrill Robinson would advance to second on an Ashley Bullion single to left but the Bulls could not capitalize on the two hits.
The Cards would tally one hit in the second, two in the fourth and one more in the bottom of the sixth to total five runs in six innings.
Senior Bree Spence (4-2) received the loss hurling 4.0 innings, giving up seven hits, four runs and two walks.
The Bulls look to split the series in game two of the doubleheader.
