Ross Gload, who was traded to the Florida Marlins on April 3, has continued his success this season with the Marlins. Gload has been batting around .300 all season as a first baseman. He has an impressive .364 OBP and a .449 slugging percentage. Gload collected his first multi-home run game of his career on 6/11 against the St. Louis Cardinals. That game was part of a three game stretch in which Gload went 8-14 with two home runs, three runs and three RBI. Gload batted .273 in 2008 with three home runs and 37 RBI. He appeared in all but 40 games of the 2008 season and he posted a .348 slugging percentage in 388 at bats. Gload who is entering his eighth season in Major League Baseball, has been one of the most productive USF players over his MLB career, and he will look to improve upon that in 2009. |

Dave Eiland faces one of the most high profile jobs in Major League Baseball as pitching coach of the New York Yankees. The Yankees play in one of the toughest divisions in baseball in the A.L. East and trail the Boston Red Sox by 4.0 games through June 23. The Yankees made two big free agent signings to the starting pitching rotation in C.C. Sabathia and A.J. Burnett. Along with the new acquisitions, Eiland also has Chien-Ming Wang, Andy Petitte, Joba Chamberlin and Phil Hughes to utilize in the rotation. Yankees pitches have combined for a 4.65 ERA through 69 games and have combined to go 38-31 with 522 strikeouts.T he Yankees are coming off their first season out of the playoffs since Eiland has been there, and he will have his work cut out for him again in 2009 in a division full of talent. Under Eiland's guidance, the Yankees are among the favorites to contend for a championship in 2009. |

After beginning the '09 campaign in the majors, Baisley has been sent back to AAA for more playing time. He is currently with the Sacramento River Cats. Baisley is batting .217 in 56 games with the River cats. He has homered twice and collected 16 RBI while slugging .298. Baisley was called up by the A's at the end of the 2008 campaign, and served as the third baseman for the club. With the aquisition of Jason Giambi, Baisley was sent down to AAA, but could fill in again if 3B Eric Chavez continues with injury problems. Baisley reached the major league ranks just three years after playing for the Bulls in 2005. He has appeared in 22 games so far for the A's and has posted a .216 average and a .375 on-base percentage. Of his 37 at-bats in 2009, Baisley has scored after nine of them. The rookie has also accounted for three RBI and 10 walks in 2008.

David Austen joins the AAA ranks for the 2009 season. After playing in the Venezuelan baseball league to begin the year, Austen has seen early season playing time with the Bees. He has posted a 2-4 record with a 6.87 ERA and 12 strikeouts. He was named the VWL Pitcher of the Year on Jan. 15, 2009. Austen made 20 appearances last season for the Arkansas Travelers (AA) and the Salt Lake Bees (AAA). He posted a 3-4 record in ten starts last season and struck out 39 batters.

Brian Baisley began the 2009 campaign with the Charleston River Dogs the class A affiliate of the New York Yankees where he got off to a hot start batting .339 in 29 games while connceting for a pair of home runs and 23 RBI. The success allowed Baisley to move up to the Tampa Yankees bringing him back to Tampa to play ball. He has struggled with Tampa batting just .176 with six RBI in 28 games with the Yankees. Brian split time last season between the Staten Island Yankees (A) and the Charleston River Dogs (A) in 2008.. Baisley enjoyed success last season earning the right to play in the N.Y. Penn League All-Star Game, where he doubled and walked. He had 11 home runs and 65 RBI last season. |

Kevin Boles remains as manager of the Greenville Drive, the Class A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Boles and his coaching staff have been appointed to be the coaching staff for the 50th Annual South Atlantic League All-Star Game. Boles currently has his team in first place in the South Atlantic League's Southern division. The Drive clinched the first half regular season title for the first time in their history. Boles and the drive sit a game ahead of second place Charleston RiverDogs with a record of 39-29 through June 23. Boles came to the Drive after a number of years with the Minnesota Twins organization, and led the Drive to a season in which they finished above .500. Boles is the son of former Florida Marlins manager John Boles. |

Walter Diaz has played in 50 games with the Lake County Captains, a Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians through June 23. Diaz is batting .232 with 10 RBI and 26 walks with the Captains after bouncing around in 2008 in the Indians Organization. Diaz had a short stint with Cleveland's AAA affiliate where he appeared in eight games for the Buffalo Bison. |

Trey Manz was selected in the 26th round of the 2009 MLB draft by the Cincinnati Reds, pick No. 779. Senior Trey Manz was named second team All-BIG EAST Conference after collecting seven doubles and three home runs in his 22 league games. Overall, Manz led the 2009 Bulls with a .541 slugging percentage in 46 games. He had six home runs, 15 doubles and 24 RBI. The catcher batted .293 for the Bulls in his senior season. Manz was a two-year player for USF, posting a .259 average with seven homers, 28 doubles and 50 RBI in 95 career games.

Addison Maruszak, who was a part of the 2008 USF squad, has already began his rise through the New York Yankees system. Maruszak spent time in 2008 in AAA, but has begun the 2009 season with the Charleston RiverDogs. He has split time between Charleston and the Tampa Yankees, enjoying great sucess in Charleston where he has batted .303 in 12 games. The former USF shortstop spent the offseason working out at the Yankees' complex in Tampa and has started the '09 campaign with a .193 batting average through 36 games. |

Danny Otero, just two years removed from the Bulls' baseball program, has had great success in a closer's role for the Connecticut Defenders. In 26 appearences for the San Francisco Giants affiliate, Otero has recorded 14 saves and has allowed just a single run and no home runs. He sports a miniscule 1.07 ERA through 25.1 innings. |

Sanford was drafted in 13th round of the 2009 MLB Draft by the San Francisco Giants, pick 388. the Sanford was previously drafted in the 43rd round of the 2006 MLB Draft by the Texas Rangers, but opted to come to USF to play for Coach Lelo Prado and the Bulls. Sanford pitched in a variety of roles for the Bulls during his years at USF. In 2009 as a starter, Sanford started 10 games and appeared in seven in relief. The pitcher went 5-4 during the 2009 season including a 4-1 mark in BIG EAST play. In 75.0 innings, he compiled a 4.68 ERA and struck out a team high 64 batters. He also walked just 22 batters and allowed no triples during the 2009 campaign. In relief, Sanford recorded three saves to give him 25 for his career, good for a tie for the fourth most in program history. Sanford was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll twice (04/28/09 and 05/14/09) and the Rivals.com 2008 Preseason All-Conference Team.

The Ports are a class A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics who won the 2008 California League Championship. Thomas has been added to the championship squad as a bullpen relief pitcher and has appeared in 5 games for the ports while earning one save. |
