Transfer Janice Rivera Joins USF Volleyball Team

May 10, 2009

TAMPA – USF volleyball head coach Claire Lessinger announced that transfer Janice Rivera has signed grant-in-aid documents with the University.

"Janice will immediately help this squad with her ball control skills and defensive consistency,” said Lessinger.  “Individually she had an extremely successful freshman year at Winthrop.  Her statistics and accolades speak for themselves. We are inheriting a feisty competitor that loves the game and can flat out play."

Rivera was an All-Big South Freshman Team honoree for Winthrop in 2008.  She averaged a team-best 4.65 digs per game for the Eagles.

Rivera was also second in the Big South Conference in overall digs per game at 4.65, which would have also ranked second in the BIG EAST. She was a two-time Big South Conference Libero of the Week honoree as well.

The transfer to Tampa will bring Rivera closer to her hometown Windermere, Fla.

Rivera will be a sophomore in the fall of 2009 and will be immediately eligible to compete for the Bulls.
