Top-Seeded Bulls Set for Conference Tournament
ORLANDO (April 20, 2017) – After a 4-0 sweep of Memphis, the USF men’s tennis team earned the No. 1 seed for the American Athletic Conference Championships. The Bulls will open their tournament play in the quarterfinals against No. 8 ECU Friday at 9 a.m.
USF ended the regular season 14-8 and moved up in the national rankings to No. 24. The Bulls will be a force in the tournament with three conference championships under their belt, three ranked singles players and one ranked doubles pair.
The Bulls boast No. 61 Sasha Gozun, No. 107 Peter Bertran, and No. 116 Alberto Barroso-Campos as well as doubles pair No. 51 Gozun and Barroso-Campos. The senior/sophomore duo has gone 10-3 this season winning seven straight doubles matches at the No. 1 spot.
Scouting the Opponent
The Pirates will bring a 16-8 record to quarterfinals, and a trio of conference wins against Temple and UConn after their second win over the Huskies in Thursday’s first-round 4-1 victory.
Based on quarterfinal results the Bulls have the opportunity to move on and face either SMU or Memphis in the semifinals Saturday at 12 p.m.
