Mendoza, Wingate Selected for UA Career Combine
TAMPA, MAY 19, 2017 – University of South Florida volleyball setter Alex Mendoza (Minneola, Fla.) and football wide receiver Marcus Wingate (Boyne City, Mich.) have been selected to attend the 2017 Under Armour Career Combine.
The one week program will be held June 5 to June 9 in Baltimore, Md., the global headquarters of Under Armour.
Mendoza and Wingate will be two of only 16 student-athletes who are being flown in for this one-of-a-kind career experience.
The UA Career Combine includes five areas – the brand, the business, career skills, networking, and competition.
- THE BRAND – understand UA's history, their story, the products and consumers
- THE BUSINESS – learn from the teams, and apply your own knowledge to UA's challenges
- CAREER SKILLS – build presentation and interview skills, growing as leaders and enhancing resumes
- NETWORKING – meet teammates with similar interests who can provide guidance and mentorship
- COMPETITION – compete in teams and present ideas and solutions to UA leaders
Additionally, Mendoza and Wingate will take part in give back activities and tour both the UA facilities and the surrounding Baltimore area.
In order to attend, participants must be student-athletes or former collegiate varsity athletes who have exhausted his/her NCAA eligibility. Student-athletes must also have a GPA or 2.75 or higher and have a career interest in fashion or design, retail, business areas such as finance, sales, human resources, supply chain, merchandising, product development, or law or technology. The student-athletes also needed to complete an essay and submit their resume to be considered for the exclusive career combine.

USF Athletics sponsors 19 varsity men's and women's teams that compete in 11 different sports, 18 competing at the NCAA Division I level in the American Athletic Conference. The Bulls' athletic program celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2015, having started with a men's soccer contest in 1965. Nearly 500 student-athletes train and compete in the athletic district located on the east end of Tampa campus. The Bulls have claimed 11 conference titles in the American Athletic Conference since 2013. Nine USF programs reached NCAA post-season competition in the 2015-16 and USF posted a program-record 86 percent Graduation Success Rate among student-athletes in the latest reporting.
