Bulls Back Among Nation's Top 10

By TOM ZEBOLD

USF Senior Writer

TAMPA - A conference title win has boosted the Bulls back into the nation's top 10.

The USF women's sailing team grabbed the No. 10 spot in Sailing World's college rankings this week after winning the SAISA Conference Women's Championships on April 22 in South Carolina. The victory automatically qualified the Bulls for the Intercollegiate Sailing Women's National Championships that take place May 31-June 2 in Austin, Texas.

"While we have generally performed well in breezier conditions all years, the victory at the very light air conference championships boosted our confidence that we can race against the best teams in light winds as well," head coach Allison Jolly said.

The Bulls took first place overall at the SAISA event after finishing ahead of Eckerd, College of Charleston, Miami and Clemson with racing action taking place in two divisions. Seniors Rachael Silverstein and Stephanie Reynolds placed second in the B Division, while Abby Featherstone and Hillary Noble placed second in the A Division in the event hosted by Clemson University.

Now the attention is turned to nationals and Jolly is focused on getting USF ready for anything at a venue that's unknown to most of the competitors.

"We will be spending the next four weeks preparing for any and all wind conditions we might encounter," she said. "Hopefully we'll be able to remain a top-10 ranked team in the country."
