TAMPA - Saturday's victory over Wake Forest in the season opener did a lot for the USF men's soccer team from a national ranking standpoint.

The Bulls jumped from No. 16 to No. 9 in the latest Soccer America national poll, made a move from No. 24 to No. 19 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com rankings and got into the Top 25 at No. 20 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll.

"Rankings are good for the program for things other than the game, as far as recruiting and things like that, so from that standpoint it's a plus," USF head coach George Kiefer said Tuesday.

The Bulls' goal is to be ranked at the end of the season, but the fact that USF wasn't ranked in all the major polls in the preseason continues to serve as a motivating factor.

"I constantly reiterate to my players that back on Aug. 10 they were a group of guys that were on nobody's radar," Kiefer said. "Nobody gave them any credit towards being a good team and to me that will serve as the motivation all year."

USF's season continues with two games at home this weekend. The Bulls face Georgia State on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and take on Robert Morris on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
