Former Bull Named To Serbian World Cup Team

TAMPA - Former University of South Florida men's soccer player Neven Subotic has been named to the Serbian National Team and will compete in the upcoming 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

A native of Banja Luka, Yugoslavia, Subotic, who was with the Bulls in 2006, currently plays professionally for Borussia Dortmund in Germany and has established himself as one of the most highly coveted defenders in European soccer.
 
Prior to USF, Subotic spent time in the U.S. U-17 National Team residency program in Bradenton where he played for former USF head men's soccer coach John Hackworth in the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Peru. He also made two appearances for the U.S. U-20 team in 2006.

Serbia, who is in Group D in the World Cup along with Australia, Germany and Ghana, will begin group play on June 13 at 10 a.m. when it faces Ghana (ESPN, ESPN3.com) in its first match of the tournament. It will then take on Germany on June 18 at 7:30 a.m. (ESPN, ESPN3.com) and then Australia on June 23 at 2:30 p.m. (ESPN2, ESPN3.com). All game times are Eastern Time.
