Up Next For the Bulls:
Game 43: St. John's | May 1 | 1:00 p.m. | Tampa, Fla.

TAMPA - A go-ahead, two-run homer by Todd Brazeal in the fourth inning powered the University of South Florida baseball team (21-21, 10-7) to a 5-2 Saturday night over St. John's at the USF Stadium.

With the win, the Bulls clinch the series over the Red Storm and keep the Bulls pace with fifth-placed Louisville for a tie for fifth in the BIG EAST standings.

USF took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an opposite field single from Sam Mende, scoring Jonathan Koscso from second.

The lead would not last long as St. John's answered with a two-run single by Rowan Wick in the next half inning but that would be all for the Red Storm at the plate.

USF starter Junior Carlin combined with three USF relievers to shutdown the St. John's offensive attack for the second straight night. St. John's came into the game averaging over six runs per game this but have scored just two so far this series.

Junior Matt Reed (4-3) picked up the win with three innings of scoreless relief after entering the game in the fifth. Reed gave up just one hit, striking out three.

Carlin would do it all as he stayed in as the designated hitter after four innings of two run ball on the mound.

In the bottom of the fifth, Carlin dropped down a perfectly placed, RBI bunt single to score Luis Llerena. Brazeal added to the lead later in the inning with his third run driven in of the night, an RBI groundout to third, giving USF a 5-2 lead, which would hold up as the game's final outcome.

Looking for his second save in as many day, senior Kevin Quackenbush worked a scoreless ninth , striking out two, to pick up his 11th save of the season.

At the plate, Koscso and Mende picked up a pair of hits a piece to lead the Bulls eight hit attack on the night.

USF will look for the sweep tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the USF Baseball Stadium when they send senior RHP  Kyle Eastham to the mound. USF has now won 12 of their last 14 home BIG EAST Series and will go for their seventh series sweep over the span.
