Redshirt junior (2015): Appeared in 30 games, starting 13 at second base…was 1-for-3 with two RBI against Wagner (2/21)…finished his career with a .266 average, nine doubles, 51 RBI and seven stolen bases…played in 138 games in his career.
2014 (RS-Sophomore): Started in 50 of 52 games he appeared in during season…Had a season high eight-game hitting streak and also a 12 game reaching base safely streak during the year…Tied for team lead with seven sacrifice bunts…Fifth on the team with 21 RBIs…Picked up five multi-hit and four multi-RBI games.
2013 (RS- Freshman): Saw action in 56 games with 52 starts in his redshirt freshman season with USF…Led the Bulls in on-base percentage (.420) while coming in a close second in batting (.331)...In his first collegiate at-bat as a pinch-hitter against Louisville, Alfonso got an RBI single…Went 3-for-5 with 2 runs and 4 RBIs in his first collegiate start against Purdue… In the Bulls 6-4 win over USF, Alfonso went 2-for-4 with 2 runs. He also made a diving catch at 2nd base in the 9th to end the Knight’s comeback bid and the game…Went 7-for-10 in the Bulls three-game sweep over Cincinnati with three runs and one RBI…Alfonso batted in the winning run in the Bulls 4-3 (10) win over St. John’s with a RBI fielder’s choice…In USF’s 15-1 April, Alfonso batted .296 with 7 runs and 5 RBI…In the Bulls’ 6-4 win over Rutgers in the BIG EAST tournament, Alfonso went 3-for-3 scoring twice.
2012 (Freshman): Red-shirted his first season with the Bulls.
High School: Played four years at Tampa Catholic where he was voted team MVP in 2011...batted .320 during his junior season...as a senior, batted .380 with 15 RBI...named team captain during his senior year...coached by Pat Russo...earned three varsity letters in baseball...member of seven honor societies...had the highest GPA on baseball team his junior and senior seasons.
Personal: Born Nikolas Anthony Alfonso on January 19, 1993 in Tampa, Fla to Tony and Idania Alfonso ... Has one sister, Alexis (14) ... His father, Tony, played baseball at USF and in the Anaheim Angels organization...Nik enjoys fishing, golfing and going to the beach...majoring in Finance and Economics.
