No. 64 Bulls Down No. 75 Ohio State, 6-1

The No. 64 University of South Florida capped its spring break with a convincing 6-1 win over No. 75 Ohio State on Sunday in Columbus, Ohio. The Bulls improve to 6-10 on the season with the victory.

“This was a good win over a great program for us today,” USF head coach Agustin Moreno said. “It was a good way for us to finish a challenging spring break week. Ohio State is an improving team that will be tough to beat as the season progresses.”

USF won at the top five singles positions and the top two doubles spots to earn the 6-1 win. No. 70 Janette Bejlkova clinched the match for the Bulls with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Kara Cecil in the No. 3 position.

Loreto Alonso Martinez scored the first singles point for the Bulls with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Fidan Manashirova at No. 4, and Alessandra Bonte was next in the win column with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Cami Hubbs in the fifth position.

After the victory was secured, No. 47 Irene Rehberger defeated Kelsey Haviland 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 in the top spot, and No. 100 Ecaterina Vasenina downed Gabby Steele 6-4, 7-5 at No. 2.

The only Bull to fall was Kate Parker in the sixth spot. She lost 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 to Tiffany Dittmer.

In doubles play, Bejlkova and Martinez earned an 8-6 victory over Haviland and Hubbs before Rehberger an Vasenina clinched the point with an 8-5 win over Manashirova and Steele. Parker and Bonte dropped their match with Cecil and Noelle Malley, 8-3.

USF returns to action on April 1 vs. Memphis.
