TAMPA- The University of South Florida volleyball team and head coach Claire Lessinger announced the signing of Valerie El Houssine to a letter of intent on Tuesday.
El Houssine is a 5’11’’ outside hitter from Eghezee, Belgium who will join the team for the 2011 fall season.
“Valerie rounds out an incredible incoming class for us. Her international and junior national team experience is going to immediately raise the level in our gym,” Lessinger said.
El Houssine helped the Belgian Junior National Team to a gold medal in the Youth Olympic Games in August of 2010, defeating the United States Junior National team in the gold medal match. She comes to USF from the VC Mosan Yvoir Club team in Belgium’s premier league called the Honor Division.
“She is a mature person and a mature player with an enormous amount of playing experience,” Lessinger said. “Valerie is a great fit and belongs in a USF jersey.”
El Houssine, who boasts a long list of honors and accomplishments, was nominated for the Trophy Sports Awards of the French Community in 2010 “Most Promising Female” and “Best Female Group”. She was also presented the Trophy Sports Award in 2010 as the “Best Sportsman of Namur”.
Off the court, Ell Houssine won the “Best Student Award” for her accomplishments in the classroom, and also participiates in gymnastics and plays tennis.
