TAMPA - Scouts from every NBA team were watching Augustus Gilchrist and USF's big man stood tall against top competition at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament this past week.
The 6-foot-10 power forward grabbed all-tournament team honors by averaging 13 points and 16.7 rebounds in three games at a tournament that's been showcasing college senior talent for the past 60 years.
Gilchrist, playing for Norfolk Sports Club, had 12 points and 12 rebounds in his team's tournament opener last Wednesday in Virginia. He posted eight points and a game-high 17 rebounds on Thursday and saved his best performance for last when he dominated with 19 points and 21 rebounds in Norfolk Sports Club's second straight victory on Saturday.
Gilchrist led USF in scoring (9.5 points) and blocks (39) this past season and helped the program reach the third round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time.
The NBA Draft takes place June 28 in Newark, N.J.
